The Sikh Cricketer Taking IPL by Storm So Why Hasn’t India Called Him Yet? Prabhsimran Singh is one of the most exciting names in modern Indian cricket. Born on 10 August 2000 in Patiala, Punjab, he is a right handed wicketkeeper batsman who represents Punjab in domestic cricket and the Punjab Kings in the IPL.
At just 25 years old, he already has over 100 T20 matches under his belt, more than 50 of them in the IPL. Aggressive in the powerplay and technically sharp at finding gaps, he is far more than a slogger he is a complete batter with a wide range of shots.
Prabhsimran Singh family and early career

Prabhsimran comes from a cricketing family. His cousin Anmolpreet Singh is also a professional cricketer for Punjab, and Prabhsimran has always credited his skills to growing up watching Anmolpreet train in the nets.
His official debut came on 7 December 2018 with the India Emerging Team at the ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup. He was just 18 years old. That performance convinced Kings XI Punjab to snap him up at the IPL 2019 auction for 4.8 crore making him the most expensive debutant of that edition.
Prabhsimran Singh IPL career from promise to cornerstone
Between 2019 and 2022 opportunities were limited just six matches but the breakthrough came in 2023 with a century against Delhi Capitals that knocked them out of the tournament.
In 2024 he finished with 334 runs in 14 matches. The biggest moment came ahead of the 2025 season: Punjab Kings retained him as one of only two players at 4 crore, and he repaid that faith with 549 runs at a strike rate of 160.62, forming with Priyansh Arya one of the most dangerous opening partnerships in the competition.
Has Prabhsimran played for India?
Not yet with the senior national side, but he has represented India Under 19 and India A. The challenge is the extremely long queue of opening talent Jaiswal, Gill, Abhishek, Samson but his dual role as wicketkeeper and opener sets him apart from most competitors. The question is not if he will play for India, but when.
Sikh cricketers in the Indian national team

The Sikh presence in Indian cricket has a proud and long history from Bishan Singh Bedi to Harbhajan Singh, from Yuvraj Singh (also a mentor to Prabhsimran) to Arshdeep Singh, today a regular in the national setup. The Sikh community makes up around 1.9% of India’s population, yet has produced a disproportionately high number of top level cricketers proof that Punjab remains one of the richest sources of cricketing talent in the country.
