Shahzad grew up in Malakwal where good cricket facilities were hard to come by. He moved to Sargodha, then to Lahore, chasing the game he loved. In 2017, the National Cricket Academy took notice and called him in to bowl at Pakistan’s national squad during Champions Trophy preparations before he had even made his first-class debut. That is the moment his career truly began.

Since 2017. Nearly a decade of domestic cricket grinding through seasons for Faisalabad, HBL, and Southern Punjab before the Test call finally came in 2023. The 2020–21 Quaid e Azam Trophy was his breakthrough, finishing among Pakistan’s leading wicket takers and making it impossible for selectors to keep looking the other way.

Yes and his debut could not have been harder. Pakistan sent him to Australia in December 2023, where he earned Test cap number 255.
